Our Programs
- Play to Learn: High-quality instrumental and choral instruction for students in grades K–12.
- Celebrate! Music: Expands the musical horizons of students in grades K–12 by introducing them to different cultures and music genres through live performances and classroom workshops.
- NEXTGen Musician: Artistic development, leadership, and advocacy program for teens.
- Journey to Japan: Hands-on workshops in music, art, and dance that bring Japanese cultural traditions to classrooms, fostering creativity, focus, and cross-cultural appreciation.
Position Summary
The Assistant Program Coordinator will provide essential support to the Director of School Programs to successfully execute all Play to Learn, Celebrate! Music, and Journey to Japan programs for NYC public schools. This position plays a vital role in supporting the creation, organization, documentation, and implementation of music education programs at K–12 schools and community-based organizations throughout New York City.
Responsibilities include:
– Supporting Midori & Friends teaching artists.
– Liaising with school personnel at collaborating NYC DOE schools.
– Assisting with school budgets.
– Supporting grants, program evaluation, and assessment.
– Documenting programs at school sites across the city through detailed observation, written reports, and media collection.
– Attending and supporting school-based concerts, workshops, and culminating events.
This is a hybrid position based in New York City.
Key Responsibilities
Program Coordination & Support
- Support Play to Learn, Celebrate! Music, and Journey to Japan residencies and workshops, coordinating schedules, planning meetings, and logistics.
- Assist with the preparation of program materials, evaluation tools, and communications.
- Provide ongoing support to teaching artists to ensure high-quality delivery of programs.
Teaching Artist & School Liaison
- Ensure Teaching Artists have timely access to schedules, resources, and updates.
- Serve as a communication bridge with school administrators and DOE personnel around program logistics.
School-Site Documentation & Events
- Conduct program observations and assist with documentation.
- Capture photo/video content to highlight program impact (experience in media a plus).
- Attend school-based concerts, workshops, and culminating events to provide on-the-ground support.
- Document program activities for marketing purposes, showcasing student achievements and program milestones.
Culminating Events & Midori Matinees
- Assist with the planning and delivery of culminating concerts/Midori Matinees.
- Support creation of event materials (flyers, programs, handouts) and partner/artist logistics.
Administrative & Reporting
- Track school-level budgets, invoices, and reporting needs; organize attendance and feedback data.
- Provide updates and documentation to the Programming Team.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in education, arts administration, or related field.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in education, nonprofit administration, or a related field.
- Proficiency with digital marketing platforms, social media, and content creation tools.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
- Experience with photography and basic video production.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
