Midori & Friends was honored to be selected by the New York City's Department of Education as a partner for the 2014 Summer Arts Initiative (SAI), a free, annual program for public school students in Grades 8 – 12 from throughout the city. The SAI nurtures young musicians who are at an intermediate or advanced level of their art form, including instrumental music, vocal music, dance, drama, photography, or visual art. M&F teaching artist Charisa Rouse is co-leading the string orchestra of 25 students with Fort Hamilton High School strings director, Barry Stern. In addition to her expertise in classical music, Charisa has brought a wealth of knowledge as a violinist in multiple genres such as jazz, funk, and rock and roll. This is the inaugural year of the strings program at the Summer Arts Institute.
