Michael Mustafa Ulmer, percussion

Michael is a multi-instrumentalist/vocalist born in Detroit, MI. Michael continuously wields his artistry as Jazz Pianist and Percussionist while perfecting his hypnotic drone grooves on the Didjeridoo. Young ‘Blood’ Ulmer also owns his vocal prowess as a Baritone singer, balancing his roles as a Music Director, Songwriter, Composer and Music Educator. He graduated from Indiana University’s School of Music with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education with a concentration in voice. Now living in New York City for the past 20 years, Mustafa has had the great opportunity to record, perform and tour with some amazing New York based artist; i.e. father and iconic guitarist James Blood Ulmer, singer/griot - storyteller Nana Camille Yarbrough and choreographer Donald McKayle. During this same time, he has also been able to build, share and expand his mission as a Teaching Artist/Accompanist in the New York City public and private school organizations; i.e. Def Dance Jam Workshop, Manhattan Country School and The Ailey School.
