A year ago, she knew nothing about Tchaikovsky, and now she is playing one of his musical pieces and enjoying music. I am grateful that Midori & Friends was initiated so children throughout New York City could welcome music into their lives.

Our multi-year schools based programs expand the skills of students in elementary, middle, and high schools. Through long-term residencies children and teens learn to sing or play violin, cello, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, guitar, or percussion. In small group, twice weekly sessions with talented teaching artists, students learn to read, play, and create music, and explore their own creative styles. The semester culminates in student recitals and other music-sharing events.
Teaching artists and classroom teachers confirm a high level of student satisfaction, collaboration, and skill development, along with an increase in their sense of personal accomplishment.
