¡Retumba! (Resound!) draws from the folkloric roots of Cuba, Puerto Rico, Haiti and Santo Domingo as well as Africa and Brazil. ¡Retumba! offers dance and percussion workshops which introduce the students to the fundamentals and principles of the dance technique, as well as the history, arts and culture of the Caribbean. Through active participation students will explore and be exposed to the many the elements that comprise this genre ¡Retumba! brings vibrant interactive performances that are musically soulful and passionate as well as visually fascinating. !Retumba! is a feast for the eyes and ears and brings the audience to their feet dancing. ¡Retumba! is a multi-ethnic all-female music and dance ensemble from New York City founded in March of 1981. Interweaving traditional rhythms, beautiful ancient melodies, with its very own unique interpretation, ¡Retumba! bases its work on the music and dance of Africa, Europe, and its expressions in the Americas and the Caribbean: Puerto Rico, Cuba, The Dominican Republic, Mexico and South America.
