Congratulations to Midori & Friends Chair Emeritus John D’Addario, Jr., and his brother, Jim D’Addario, for being recognized by Music Merchandise Review (MMR) with the 2014 Don Johnson Music Industry Service Award.
The trophy conferred with this prestigious award to the D’Addario brothers reads “In Recognition and Appreciation for Your Outstanding Advocacy and Support for Music Education at the Community and National Level.”
Midori & Friends joins MMR in the resounding applause for the D’Addarios. We are grateful for our longstanding partnership with the D’Addario family, a collaboration that has been transformative for the growth and development of our organization.
In 2006, the D’Addario family launched the Midori & Friends guitar instruction program. Through their leadership, this program – the most popular one that we offer – now brings instruments, talented teaching artists, and sequential guitar instruction to students at schools and community organizations across the city. These young people learn playing techniques and repertoire, as well as how to harmonize, listen in an ensemble, read music, and express themselves artistically, and share their accomplishments by performing for their families and their school community. None of this would be possible without the D’Addarios’ vision and generous participation.
We invite you to follow the link below to read the article in the current issue of MMR which depicts the history of the D’Addario family’s extraordinary commitment to music education, as well as the superlative work being done by the current president of the D’Addario Foundation, John’s daughter, and former Midori & Friends board member, Suzanne D’Addario Brouder.
We are so proud to see the D’Addario family publicly acknowledged for their support of music education initiatives across the country. We salute them, and we thank them for everything they have done for Midori & Friends.
